LAKE FORK RESERVOIR

Known as the "Big Bass Capital of Texas" Lake Fork is located about 5 miles west of Quitman. Fork has an estimated surface area of 27,690 acres & extends up Fork Creek about 15 miles. Lake Fork has perfect fish habitat consisting of numerous underwater structures and lake vegetation consisting mainly of hydrilla, milfoil, lily pads and duckweed. Barry St. Clair caught the current state record Largemouth bass from Lake Fork Reservoir in January 1992 weighing 18.18 pounds. Almost 70 percent of the largemouth bass on the state top 50 list for that species have been caught in Lake Fork.


Lake Quitman

Lake Quitman is located on Dry Creek, a tributary of the Sabine River 5 miles north of Quitman off FM 2966. Lake Quitman is approximately 814 acres with a maximum depth of 25 feet. Boat acces is available at 3 ramps maintained by Wood County. Picnic areas are available at each ramp and camping is permitted in the two parks near the dam. RV sites are available near the eastside ramp through a privately owned marina which also sells bait, gas and food. Largemouth bass and crappie are popular sportfish. Largemouth bass anglers are most successful in spring, fall and winter months. There are several subdivision with waterfront homes on Lake Quitman. Lake Quitman property seldom is for sale and is heavily sought after.
